LOCATION
Location - Jayasumanaramaya - Buddhist Temple.

Jayasumanaramaya temple is situated on a picturesque site between the sea and river Nilwala in the Kotuwegoda division of the historic Matara Town. The people of the south Sri Lanka generally refer to it as “Welle Pansala” (Temple in the sand.) Probably because of its close proximity to the sea beach. The temple is just 500 meters form the historic Dutch Fort of Matara. One kilometer form the Star Fort and only 400 meters away form the main bus stand of Matara. The temple faces the Matara – Tangalle main Road.

A number of reputed schools in Matara town such as, St. Servatius College, St. Mary’s Convent & the Maha Maya Girls’ School as well as the General Hospital of Matara are just close-by and have enhanced the significance of the temple.

The ancestral home of Sri Lanka’s supper cricketer Sanath Jayasooriya is very near the temple. Cricketer Sanath Jayasooriya was educated at St. Servatius college nearly by and received his dhamma education during his student days, at the Dhamma school of this temple. The dhamma education which he received at the temple during those distant days may have, no doubt, contributed in no small measure to mould him into the disciplined and unassuming sportsman of the world. The temple can justly be proud of this great past pupil of its Dhamma School.

Nature’s wonders like the Rumassala Hills, Hummanaya blow-hole, Sinharaja rain forests & Usgoda mountain top adding to the beauty of southern Sri Lanka are not far away form the temple.
