This pirivena first started in 1959 with the objective of providing education for novice monks, is in a very advanced and improved stage today. Many are the Buddhist monk and laymen who have studied at this pirivena at sometime or other and who are engaged in Buddhist missionary work today,both here and abroad. Several progrmmes are being conducted at this pirivna to train novice monks for the propagation of Buddha Dhamma & perpetuation of Buddha sasana. The executive priest is the Chief incumbent of the temple Venerable Tharaperiye Somaloka Nayaka Thero.

The principal of pirivena is Venerable Sasthrapathi Yatigala Somathilaka Thero who is also the registrar of both Jayasumanaramaya & Chulasumanaramaya temples.The teaching staff consists of eight teachers.
