DHAMMA ASSEMBLY HALL
Dhamma Assembly Hall - Jayasumanaramaya - Buddhist Temple.

1. Dhamma Assembly Hall
The eighty disciples - The Lord Buddha preached dhamma sermons to his eighty disciples led by sariputta & Moggallana at the Jetawanaramaya in Saviththi. These occasions have been depicted in murals at many temples in the Island. But the Dhamma Assembly Hall at this temple has been done in sculpture in well proportioned images each different form the other as in the case of a live assembly of Sanga at a sermon. This creation is a blessing to all Buddhists the world over. This is the only such creation to be found in Sri Lanka and a thing to be proud of by not only the southerners by all Sri Lankans.

2. Dharmapala Jataka
The story of the king who killed his own child in his drunkenness

The king was in a high state of drunkenness when he returned form a spree of enjoyment in the royal parks. The queen who was enjoying with their little child in her motherly bliss forgot to pay obeisance to the king on his arrival. This infuriated the kin who in his rage ordered the executioner to cut off the hands and leg of the little prince and slice the body into seven parts resembling seven petals of a shoe flower.

This heinous crime resulted in an immediate punishment to the king when hell
fairs rose form the ground and burnet the king to ashes then and there. All this is depicted with sublime effect by the artist in the mural. Even the odious executioner is shown in the hateful and repulsive aspect he deserves. This certainly is an outstanding creation of the artist.
