Jayasumanaramaya temple is situated on a picturesque site between the sea and river Nilwala in the Kotuwegoda division of the historic Matara Town. The people of the south Sri Lanka generally refer to it as "Welle Pansala" (Temple in the sand.) Probably because of its close proximity to the sea beach.
The temple is just 500 meters form the historic Dutch Fort of Matara. One kilometer form the Star Fort and only 400 meters away form the main bus stand of Matara. The temple faces the Matara - Tangalle main Road.

This pirivena first started in 1959 with the objective of providing education for novice monks, is in a very advanced and improved stage today.
Many are the Buddhist monk and laymen who have studied at this pirivena at sometime or other and who are engaged in Buddhist missionary work today,both here and abroad.Several progrmmes are being conducted at this pirivna to train novice monks for the propagation of Buddha Dhamma & perpetuation of Buddha sasana...
